Negative Aspects of Online games
Online gaming has had a terrible effect on a number of people. Some people become so addicted to an online game or online gaming in general that they no longer care about anything else. Online games cause people to forget their priorities focus on the game instead of school, work, family, and their real world friends. They become a social recluse, although they may have a large number of friends online who they have never met. Such people are creating a self-destructive behavior. The more they play their games the more the are going to isolate themselves and have a harder time interacting in the real world. They can even become so addicted to a game that they die from doing nothing else. There have been several deaths around the world cause from online game addiction, most notably in China, South Korea, Vietnam, and the United States. Some involve negligence to a child caused by game addiction and others involve the gamer killing another person because they interrupted their game. Now I am not saying that all video games are bad, I am just saying that some online video games like World of Warcraft have a negative impact. Most of the time it won't involve death or crime, but I would involve a misplacement of priorities and waste a lot of time, as stated earlier. They ignore their school work and spend all their time inside doing something will not benefit them in the long run Video games have been used to teach students and children and are very effective. Casual video games can also be used as a way to relax. I will occasionally play “Angry Birds,” but I will not let it take up too much of my time or become so focused on the game that I will be determined to become one of the best in the world. Video game are fun, but I figure, why play for nearly days when it is not real?

I can personally attest to this research you have done. When I was 17, I started playing World of Warcraft with a few buddies of mine from school. At first it seemed like a great time playing after school and leveling up with my friends. It also was a good way to teach me lessons such as managing time, money and figuring out abstract puzzles to create the best character possible. Then came a point that I wanted to be better then everyone else in my realm, and would stop at nothing to make this fictional, online character the best he could be. I took pride in being the best, but this prestige came at a great cost. I would play non stop; ignoring my real world responsibilities and friends. I would skip class and meals to make it to group raids and stayed up many nights till the wee hours of the morning dreading having to log off in order to make it to school. Over the coarse of a year, I completely lost touch with reality and became so involved in an alternate reality that I became depressed and didn't want to l've in the real world which contributed to my substance abuse addiction. Like you said, not all video games are bad, but MMORPG's can get out of hand very fast and take people, young and old, to places that no one should have to experience.
ReplyDeleteI find video games a fun and a great way to get relaxed. But in recent years the prolonged use of video games have caused so many issues like change in behavior, health problems and many more. Even after learning about all these negative aspects people do play games. Do positive points overshadow all these negative aspects ?
